MPN
The Canadian MPN Research Foundation supports research on myeloproliferative neoplasms, a group of blood cancers. We designed MPN Genie, the ecosystem that allowed patients to track their symptoms, and physicians and researchers to better understand them.
Symptoms to track over time.
The MPN10 questionnaire measures the symptoms of patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms. To get the most out of it, patients needed to be able to complete it themselves, physicians to track how it changed, and researchers to analyze data from a large number of patients.
Multi-platform.
Three audiences, the same data.
Appcom's challenge was to turn the MPN10 questionnaire into an app: patients answered it on their own, physicians tracked how their symptoms evolved to support better diagnoses, and researchers analyzed the data while protecting privacy.
The app also had to give patients better visibility into the progression of their symptoms and overall health, and make it easier to enter and share data between physician and patient.
The app had to work offline, sync across devices, offer several languages and allow data export.
A questionnaire turned into an ecosystem.
We designed and developed MPN Genie, a native iOS and Android app for phones and tablets that lets patients complete the MPN10 questionnaire themselves every week. One question per screen, a summary with the total score before submitting, then a history and charts filterable by period and by symptom: patients can see how their symptoms change over time. The app works offline and syncs as soon as the connection returns.
A web console completed the ecosystem. Physicians used it to follow their patients and print PDF reports. Administrators exported anonymized data for research and created new bilingual questionnaires without any development.
Serving patients and research.
